diptych—pears

I must be feeling seasonal. Either that or I’m going through some kind of neutral brown beige sort of phase.

cockatiel notecard

The children will be very happy to see that I have finally gotten around to photographing him. This is a small job for someone who asked for a notecard of a bird. I didn’t have any bird pics in the gallery so I snapped one of our birds rather than snap one in the wild. He’s a cockatiel.

I’m really excited about and happy with the print quality from my printer. The photography looks SO much better in print than it does on my screen. The last couple weeks I have been testing notecard paper, at least 25 different papers, to see which one I liked best. There are a few but I think I really like the matte papers.

artshelf challenge—the art of makeup

Some time ago I mentioned a book on makeup that I had found on sale for only $3.99. I don’t usually browse books on makeup but it was there seducing me with its come hither looks sitting pretty on the sale shelf right at the entrance of the bookstore, not to mention the price tag was right. If I wasn’t drawn to experimenting with makeup for my photography I would have flicked through and thought, hmm that’s nice and moved on. (more…)

fourth grade heritage luncheon

The fourth grade heritage luncheon crept up on me last week. Christian reminded me about it two days before the event. I knew we should had done New Zealand because then I could had made fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, but he was doing France and I was stressing out big time. What French food would children enjoy eating that wasn’t a dessert? After calming myself down I thought of a quiche lorraine and tart l’ognion. Also baguette sandwiches. I turned to some of my favourite food sites and low and behold looky what I found. Croque Monsieur. Perfect.

Christian told me that we couldn’t take desserts but I took along a plate of profiteroles as well because a luncheon isn’t a luncheon if it doesn’t have dessert. So anyway, I get to the luncheon and what do I see? Lots of desserts! There were also three or four other children doing France as their heritage too. Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia, Korea, England and Ireland were represented as well. I knew we should had done New Zealand. :) Then I could had made lamingtons. Remember those lamington drives?
