fête de l’ecole—school celebrations

Two weeks ago the troisième class (nineth grade) went to the beach to play volleyball for PE. I went along too with my camera to take pics of Françoise and later I was asked by one of the teachers if I could send some of my pics to the school. I was happy to do so but after I proofed my shots I was embarrassed about the quality because of the problems I was experiencing with my lens. When the end of the school fête rolled by however, I was ready and armed with a new one (lens). I was asked again if I could send in my pics (because carrying a big camera gives the impression that you mean business) and this time I have a bunch that I’m more than pleased with.

The school fête began 5:30pm and finished well after midnight. For the first hour or so the students and teachers performed on stage for everyone. The first two pics is of a student acting as a teacher and the teachers acting as students. It was really funny to watch the students misbehaving and the poor teacher snapping at them.

Here is a pic of one of the students performing ballet (absolutely beautiful and top notch):

And the school choir group (dressed in blue jeans and red shirts):

Students waiting to go on stage:

Pascale’s class singing English. They were singing “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66.” The little girl on the left was such a dag that it made the other kids giggle throughout their performance. Fun.

Afterwards we hung out for a bit while we waited for dinner to be served:

If there’s anything that resembles the French culture at an event, it would have to be the presence of tables and chairs. The French like to eat but most importantly they like to sit at a table with a chair WHILE they eat. On the menu was a Basque dish, sort of like a stew with peppers served with rice and baguette. For dessert, cheese and more baguette, and a slice of apple tart.

The evening was a blast because of this guy, the DJ. A fifteen year old school rise out (not drop-out). He knew how to get everyone dancing for hours on the dance floor. The music was good fun and clean with a mixture of old and new. I jumped with my hands in the air for a fair bit (because that’s how you dance to techno music) so much that I nearly pee-ed my pants! Gotta work on those kegel exercises, I think. Anyway, I’ll let the pictures do the talking now:

I’ll edit the art challenge post I sent previously, later.
